Filing and payment deadline extension provided to taxpayers in Atlantic Canada

The Canada Revenue Agency has announced that administrative tax relief will be provided to taxpayers living in Atlantic Canada who were affected by Hurricane Fiona.

Specifically, the CRA has announced that the filing and payment due date for returns and tax balances has been extended to October 31 for all corporate and trust tax returns and for GST/HST returns. That extension applies to all such returns that would normally have been due between September 26 and October 30.

In addition, the CRA indicated that no late-filing penalties or interest charges would be assessed if such returns are submitted after September 30.

The CRA announcement can be found on the Agency’s website at Support for Canadians affected by Hurricane Fiona – Canada.ca.
