Do you have a disability or you think you have one? It is now faster and easier to apply! The online digital form is now available for disability tax credit applications!

Qualifying Canadians are entitled to claim a disability tax credit which reduces both federal and provincial tax payable. In order to claim that credit an individual must complete and submit an application, which must then be approved by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

In order to qualify for the disability tax credit, an individual must meet several very specific requirements and detailed information must be provided by a medical practitioner indicating how those requirements are met. Previously, that process involved a very lengthy application/certification form.

The CRA has issued a Tax Tip indicating that applications for claiming the disability tax credit are now digital and can be completed online. The applicant’s portion of the form will be prepopulated with information already on file at the CRA, and once completed, the applicant will receive a reference number to give to their medical practitioner who will use it to complete Part B of the form. In addition, the option of completing the process by phone, either with the support of a telephone agent (1-800-959-8281) or using the automated voice service (1-800-463-4421), is also now available.

The Tax Tip outlining the new digital application process can be found on the CRA website at Applying for the Disability Tax Credit is easy with our new digital form! – Canada.ca.
